Experimental Micro-Modelling of Particle Deposition Processes onto Heterogeneous Substrates

Abstract:

The movement of particles within a porous medium is determined by many complex mechanisms. The objective of this study was to obtain visual results from the flow of particles through a glass micro-model, and subsequently conduct a qualitative analysis of these results. The study involves an extensive review of publications related to particle deposition, consequent analysis, and adaptation of a suitable methodology for the application of micro-models to simulate porous flow.

The study also addresses the presence of numerical theories used to model particle flow and deposition, and discusses the expected results with respect to these theories. The refined method in this study targets the specific influence of solution ionic strength and particle size on the nature of particle deposition. The results are presented and discussed, and any variation or agreement with past results or theories is identified and explained.
